Is the free tier really free forever?+

Yes. The MCP server, dashboard, SDKs, and Chrome extension are MIT-licensed and run entirely on your machine. We have no way to charge you for local use — there's no account involved. The hosted free tier (when you sign up at mnueron.com) is also free forever, capped at 500 memories so you can try the cloud sync before paying.

What does 500 memories actually look like in real life?+

Each “memory” is one saved item — a captured AI conversation, a “remember this” note from Claude Code or Cursor, a manually saved snippet, or one fact auto-extracted from a longer doc.

For most users, 500 memories is several months of real usage:

• Casual user (1-2 captures/day) — about 8 months to a year.
• Active developer (5-7 saves/day across IDE + Chrome extension) — about 2-3 months.
• Heavy daily user (auto-capture on, 15+/day) — about 3-5 weeks.

For comparison: 500 memories is roughly the same volume as 500 sticky notes around your desk, a year of “save this” messages in Slack DMs, or 3-4 months of casual Notion notes.

Important: the 500-memory cap is a soft cap. When you hit it, new saves pause and we ask you to upgrade — but every memory you've already saved keeps working. Reads, searches, and recall continue normally. We never delete or lock you out of your data.

What happens when a free-tier user hits the 500-memory cap?+

New saves return a 402 (“upgrade required”) response and the dashboard shows a banner pointing to the upgrade page. The user can:

• Keep reading and searching all 500 existing memories — no change.
• Upgrade to Basic ($10/mo) to unlock 50,000 memories and AI features.
• Export everything to local mode (free) and keep using mnueron locally without paying.

We never delete data, never lock users out of what they've saved, and never make them wait for a billing cycle to access their memories.

Can I bring my own API key (BYOK)?+

Yes — on every tier, including free. Pass metadata.byok_anthropic_key or metadata.byok_openai_key on a save and we'll use your key for that call. The key is used once and stripped from the row before it's persisted — we never store it. This lets free-tier users access AI features (entity extraction, auto-synopsis) without paying us for the LLM cost.

Can I move from hosted back to local?+

Yes. mnueron migrate-from-hosted exports your org's memories back into a local SQLite DB. No vendor lock-in. Same command works the other direction (local → hosted).

How does annual billing work?+

Annual saves you 17% (two months free). You pay upfront once, and your subscription auto-renews each year unless you cancel. Toggle the switch at the top of this page to see the annual price. Cancel anytime in your account settings — the cancellation takes effect at the end of the period you paid for.

Why charge at all if mnueron is open source?+

The CLI, MCP server, SDKs, and Chrome extension are MIT — fork them, embed them, sell what you build with them. Free forever. The hosted backend (running at mnueron.com) costs us money to run — Postgres, Vercel, Claude API calls for entity extraction. Paid tiers cover that infrastructure. If you don't want to pay, local mode is genuinely unlimited.
